Hey there,
I'm trying to figure out a way to get Live to scan two plugin folders that I have on my computer (it's a long and boring story that I've save you). Perhaps I should just move the .dll files into my Live directory, but I've read quite a few horror stories about people doing this and EZdrummer's makers say not to as well. I did see this solution referenced in the manual, though I don't have any idea how to create a Windows 'alias':
'It is also possible to use VST Plug-ins stored in different folders on your computer. To do this, create a Mac OS or Windows alias of the folder where additional VST Plug-ins are stored, and then place the alias in the VST Plug-In Custom folder (or in the VST Plug-In System folder on Mac OS X) selected in Live’s File/Folder Preferences. The alias can point to a different partition or hard drive on your computer. Live will scan the set VST Plug-in

System32 Folder

If they are all in different folders Ableton Live may not be able to locate them all without changing the Custom Folder. In Ableton Live, now go to Options Preferences File Folder Plug-In Sources (at the bottom). Make sure 'Use VST Plug-In Custom Folder' is set to On. If using Live 10 and VST3, enable the System folder. This is where your PROCESS.AUDIO plug-ins are installed by default (C: Program Files Common Files VST3). If using a VST3 or VST2 Plug-in Custom Folder, make sure your PROCESS.AUDIO plug-ins are actually installed in this folder and switch it on (usually C: Program Files VSTPlugins).

  1. If you're unable to find your iZotope products within Ableton Live, you can try the steps below to locate them: 1. Rescan your folder. To perform a rescan, open Ableton Preferences and head to Plug-ins (10.1 and later) or File/Folder (All versions until 10.1) and click the rescan button under 'Plug-In Sources'.
  2. Jan 17, 2017  In this video we explain how to administer your VST plug-ins in Ableton Live on Windows computers. 'How Can I Check the Version Number of My Installed Native.
  3. 'Use VST Plug-In Custom Folder' if you have installed all or some of the VST plug-ins in a dedicated folder of your own choice, i.e. 'VST Plug-ins'. Click on the Browse button and navigate to this specific folder. Don't set it to a big folder, partition or hard drive as this will crash Live. On a Mac you can also use Audio Units.
  4. For Mac users, simply toggle On the button next to Use VST Plug-in System Folder if it is not on already, and/or toggle On the box for Use Audio Units. Ableton will.
folder as well as any alias folders contained therein.'

Open Live's Preferences → Plug-ins (Live 10.1 and later)/File Folder (all Live versions until 10.1) → Plug-In Sources. Activate either the Custom folder or System folder (VST 3 only) as required.

Does anyone know how to do this? Ableton peeps?
