Today is a cool one, recently I did a workshop for Beat Lab about Lofi Hip Hop. I’ve made an Ableton template project and a few racks. Figured I’ll share the coolest one here.

It’s a collection of a bunch of effects aimed at deteriorating the sound of drums to a point where it sounds directly out of the latest Lofi Hip Hop tune. The main approach was filtering, EQing, Distorting and Compressing.

Macros

Tiny Room – Diffuse and smear the sound. Put it in a tiny space.

Lo-Fi Level – Amount of Low-Frequency Damping

Retune – Dedicated Frequency Shifter

Toit – Removing Sustain from the sound

Clean Mud – Amount of EQ reduction to Remove cluttering frequencies

Open – Post Exciter

Stereo Madness – Experimental but will make it super wide
